Preserve Existing

This option will preserve the current source directory structure at the target location, only for the selected files in the Sumation Operation.

SumationÖ Explorer will move or copy files that have been selected to the target location, and only the selected files, while recreating the directory structure only where a file is located in this structure at the target location. At first glance this may not seem to be a very important feature, but consider the alternative.

If you were using Windows« Explorer to move files to a new location, in order to preserve the previous directory structure at the new location, your only alternative is to copy the entire root folder to the new location. This approach is well suited to simple move operations, but is not well suited to clean up operations.

If you were trying to clean out old files from a given structure, and preserve that structure at the target location, you would have to do three operations in Windows« Explorer to achieve the same result offered in one step with SumationÖ Explorer. That is, you would have to copy the root folder to the new location, run a search on the both the new and the original locations to deleted files by age or type or other criteria in each of these locations no longer required in the other.

Duplicate files will be renamed with a prefix added to the file name in the form of Copy (n) of <File Name>.

If Sumation Notifications are used, these will automatically update either the Shortcut or Hyperlinked HTML File with the new destination file name.
